Vienna Community Groups, Local Business Raise $4k For Venezuela Earthquake Victims

Vienna community groups and businesses came together to raise money for earthquake victims in Venezuela.

VIENNA, VA – Vienna community nonprofit the One Neighborhood Foundation along with two local businesses organized a fundraiser on July 4 that collected $4,000 to help victims of the recent earthquakes in Venezuela.

The Vienna Foodies Facebook group, a local gourmand chat that has become a hub for local organizing, announced their results in a post on Thursday. They said the organization in partnership with Pets and People Together hosted the fundraiser in collaboration with the Texas Donuts location in Vienna. Texas Donuts donated a portion of every purchase to World Central Kitchen, to be specifically earmarked for Venezuela relief efforts.

“Because of your incredible generosity (and love for donuts!!!), we raised $3,000 during the event!” organizers wrote. “THEN— Texas Donuts generously added a $500 donation, and People and Pets Together Inc. personally contributed another $500, bringing our grand total to an amazing $4,000 for earthquake relief in Venezuela.”

Also helping with the festive vibe was a local face painter, the post said.

World Central Kitchen provides meals for victims of natural disasters and other crises worldwide.

Venezuela was rocked by two powerful earthquakes on June 24. More than 3,800 people were killed in the disaster, with more than 15,000 displaced.

A local urban search and rescue unit has been part of rescue and recovery efforts in Venezuela.
