I-95 Lane Closures Planned In Woodbridge: VDOT

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Drivers traveling south on Interstate 95 through Woodbridge should expect nighttime lane closures Monday as crews prepare to shift traffic at the Route 123 interchange.

Alternating single- and double-lane closures are scheduled on the southbound I-95 general purpose lanes from 9:30 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The work is weather permitting.

Once the shift is completed, southbound traffic will move to the right onto a newly constructed section of the I-95 bridge over Occoquan Road. The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until summer 2027.

The shift will allow crews to demolish and rebuild the remaining portion of the existing Occoquan Road bridge as part of the larger I-95 and Route 123 interchange improvements project.

Other improvements include widening the Route 123 ramp to southbound I-95 from one to two lanes, replacing the northbound Route 123 loop ramp to southbound I-95 with a signalized left turn and realigning several ramps. A shared-use path is also planned along northbound Route 123 between Annapolis Way and Devil's Reach Road.

Construction along southbound I-95, including the Occoquan Road bridge work, is expected to wrap up in late 2027. The entire interchange project is scheduled for completion in late 2028.
