PWC Wins $295M In Funding For 4 Transportation Projects In $776M NVTA Program

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Prince William County secured funding for four transportation projects after the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority approved a $776 million, six-year funding program supporting 21 transportation projects across the region.

The funding package, adopted July 9 by the NVTA, commits regional transportation revenues to roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian, technology and intersection improvement projects throughout Northern Virginia. Eight jurisdictions submitted 27 applications seeking a combined $1.265 billion, with the authority ultimately funding 21 projects.

Prince William County received funding for four projects. Other areas receiving funding included Arlington, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church, the City of Manassas and the Town of Herndon.

Prince William County Projects Receiving Funding

The following Prince William County projects were approved for funding:

• Van Buren Road North Extension: Route 234 to Cardinal Drive: $179 million
• Route 15 Railroad Overpass and Improvements Project: $65 million
• Dale City Transit Priority Project: $6 million
• Route 234 Trail at Innovation Park: $45 million

Across the region, Arlington County received funding for 10 projects, including trail and highway improvements. Fairfax County received $116.3 million for the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit Phases I and II project. Loudoun County received $200 million for the Route 50 North Collector Road project and $1.6 million for Colonial Highway pedestrian safety improvements. The City of Alexandria received $15 million for Duke Street Transitway Phase 2 improvements, while the City of Falls Church was awarded $30 million for Annandale Road multimodal improvements. The City of Manassas received $30.3 million for Phase 1 of the Manassas VRE Line Rail-with-Trail project, and the Town of Herndon received $4.4 million for South Elden Street corridor improvements.

According to NVTA, the adopted funding program includes five roadway projects, two intersection and interchange projects, three transit projects, nine bicycle and pedestrian projects, and two technology projects.

"This program represents a significant investment in Northern Virginia's transportation future," NVTA CEO Monica Backmon said in a statement. "By funding projects across all modes of travel, we are advancing solutions that reduce congestion and support the region's continued growth and economic competitiveness."

The authority said the funding recommendations followed a yearlong evaluation process that included technical analysis, committee review and a 45-day public comment period that generated 702 public comments.

With the latest program, NVTA has committed nearly $4.5 billion through eight regional funding programs supporting 153 transportation projects.
