PWC Community Event Nets School Supplies, Food Donations For Kids Returning To School
According to organizers, thousands of pounds of food donations as well as school supplies and serves were provided to families at the event.
WOODBRIDGE, VA – A back-to-school community event in Woodbridge on Saturday drew thousands of attendees and gathered school supplies and snacks for Prince William County students, who’ll be returning to class next week.
According to the CEO of the Prince William County Community Foundation Vanessa Gattis, 10,000 people attended the event at Freedom High School in Woodbridge. Organizers gathered 12,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetable donations and packed backpacks full of school supplies for students in need.
Gattis also says families were connected to 140 vendors and community partners who attended to provide back-to-school resources, including dental screenings and other medical clinics.

According to U.S. Census data, nine percent of children under 18 in the Prince William County school district are living below the federal poverty line. Feeding America found the food insecurity rate in the county to be 10% in 2024.
