Anacortes council approves transportation plan, talks World Cup art installation (goskagit.com) ā Anacortes City Council has approved a six-year transportation improvement plan that shapes funding and timelines for key road, sidewalk, and safety projects through 2032, including long-delayed Kansas Avenue work and possible interim traffic calming. Councilmembers also backed a World Cup-themed āANACORTESā letter installation at the ferry terminal to capture summer visitor traffic, and authorized accepting treated contaminated water from the Whitmarsh landfill cleanup into the city sewer under strict limits.

2. Island Health announces chief medical officer to retire (goskagit.com) ā Island Healthās chief medical officer, Dr. Jason Hogge, will retire July 17 after 20 years serving the Anacortes-based public hospital district, including recruiting dozens of new providers. Patients at Island Primary Care ā 24th Street will be contacted to transition their care, while Island Health begins searching for a new CMO amid other recent leadership changes in its executive team.

3. āBe a rainbow': Anacortes High grads turn their tassels with empathy, tenacity (goskagit.com) ā Anacortes High Schoolās 120th graduating class, 181 seniors strong, crossed the Rice Field stage this week, celebrating perseverance, kindness, and big dreams for the future. Six valedictorians, student speakers, and district leaders urged the class of 2026 to embrace uncertainty, support one another, and ābe a rainbowā for others as they leave Anacortes High School and step into their next chapters.

4. WSU bolsters class of 2027 with commitments from two defenders, one from in-state (spokesman.com) ā An Anacortes High School standout is already in Washington Stateās 2027 football class, with quarterback Ryan Harrington listed among the Cougarsā early commits. WSU just added two more defensive recruits, including an in-state linebacker, as the program works to rebuild its recruiting footprint across Washington and the West Coast.
