Bellingham City Council approves logging contract with Janicki Logging and Construction (kpug1170.com) — Bellingham City Council has unanimously approved a contract with Janicki Logging and Construction to thin an overcrowded 80-acre section of the North Beaver Creek Preserve. The city will receive 20% of timber sale revenue for logging road upgrades, and thinning is expected to reduce tree density while supporting healthier forest biodiversity.

2. Bellingham drivers could see lowered speed limits on city roads soon (kpug1170.com) — Bellingham is moving toward lowering most neighborhood and downtown streets to 20 mph, with new signs at city limits expected to go up this summer. The Transportation Commission unanimously backed a three-year speed limit reduction plan, which now heads to City Council and will roll out alongside public education campaigns and future community input on additional changes.

3. Longstanding Bellingham landmark to be relocated to replace culvert as part of I-5 fish passage project (einpresswire.com) — Bellingham Rock will be removed from its longtime I-5 perch near Chuckanut Creek and likely relocated to private land in Bellingham with public access, as WSDOT advances a major fish-passage project. The work will bring lane shifts on I-5, a closure of Old Samish Road, and new bridges that open more salmon habitat. Drivers should watch for upcoming traffic changes and work zones.

4. Massive Landslide Cleanup Reopens I-5 South of Bellingham (97rockonline.com) — Drivers in and around Bellingham can once again use I-5 just south of town after a massive March 19 landslide shut the freeway for nearly a month. Crews removed about 7,000 cubic yards of debris and anchored the unstable slope with deep steel supports, with repairs funded through state emergency money. Detours are now lifted, easing regional travel for local commuters and freight.
