• Inmate Fatality Report Points to Ongoing Issues at SCORE Jail (theurbanist.org) — Burien is one of six South King County cities that own and use the SCORE jail, which is under scrutiny after a fatal overdose and questions about safety and medical care. The report and follow-up interviews detail delayed response to an inmate’s overdose, ongoing contraband concerns, and a controversial switch to a new medical provider, all while some regional officials push to expand use of the facility.

• Littler's Semi-Annual 2026 Rates Update for Minimum Wage, Tips, and Exempt Pay Increases (and Other Developments) (jdsupra.com) — Burien employers and workers get a key mention in this national wage-law roundup, which notes the city’s May 18 repeal of its old minimum wage ordinance and adoption of the 2025 voter-approved version. That change created a new three-tier system, with revised hourly rates as of June 4: $21.78 for 501+ employees, $20.78 for 16–500, and $19.21 for 1–15 employees.
