Forest Service proposes 30,000-acre wildfire buffer above Lake Chelan (lakechelanmirror.com) — A 30,000-acre forest restoration project above Lake Chelan is being proposed to create a powerful wildfire buffer for Chelan, Manson, and Wapato Lake. Forest Service officials told the Chelan City Council the long-term plan would use thinning and prescribed burns to shrink potential flame lengths, protect orchards and homes, and invite public comment later this summer as fire season starts early.

Lake Chelan Valley Boys & Girls Club sees surge in youth sports participation (lakechelanmirror.com) — Youth sports are booming in Chelan, with the Lake Chelan Valley Boys & Girls Club reporting big jumps in basketball and flag football participation and hundreds of volunteer hours. In an update to the Chelan City Council, leaders outlined new summer camps, expanded before- and after-school programs, and future offerings like soccer and cheerleading, all hinging on added gym space at the Lake Chelan Community Center.
