• Cle Elum passed a data center ban. One might be built there anyway (seattletimes.com) — Cle Elum’s City Council has approved a six-month moratorium on new data centers, but a proposed 20-megawatt facility near I-90 may still move forward under an existing development agreement. City leaders are forming an advisory committee and planning a Sept. 8 public hearing to study impacts on power, water, noise, emergency services, and the local economy.
   

• Driver in crash that caused wildfire accused of negligent driving (dailyrecordnews.com) — A car crash on US Highway 97 near Liberty sparked the Swauk Creek Fire east of Cle Elum, leading to a negligent driving charge for an 18-year-old driver. The blaze grew to 30 acres and was 38% contained Tuesday, triggering Level 1 evacuation notices for Liberty and nearby areas and Level 2 warnings east of the highway.
