Owner Joanna Hall is collaborating with the city, exploring vacation rentals and community partnerships, and wants the property to remain a welcoming “third space” for residents to relax, play, and connect locally.

Crime Stoppers urges public to help solve the killing of 21-year-old Hamze Elmi (kiro7.com) — Investigators are again asking Federal Way residents for help solving the 2025 killing of 21‑year‑old Hamze Elmi, who was shot multiple times outside his home on 9th Avenue South. Crime Stoppers is offering anonymous tip options and up to $11,000 in rewards, stressing that someone in the community likely knows who is responsible and could finally bring his family answers.
   

3. Beloved 50-year-old theme park open for final season before closing forever (mlive.com) — Wild Waves Theme Park in Federal Way has begun its final season and will close permanently after Nov. 1, 2026, following years of financial losses. The park, a local favorite since 1977, will honor all 2026 tickets and passes while offering a full slate of rides, waterpark fun, Fright Fest, and special farewell events as residents brace for redevelopment of the site.
   

4. Public comment open for flight impacts from new airport construction (federalwaymirror.com) — Federal Way residents now have until July 21 to comment on how proposed SEA Airport expansion projects could affect local noise, air quality, and health. The Port of Seattle’s new environmental review specifically references Federal Way, including the light rail station, and outlines major terminal, cargo, and roadway changes, with a public meeting scheduled June 25 at Wildwood Elementary in Federal Way.
   

5. Man charged in Kent murder also part of deadly SR 18 crash (kentreporter.com) — A man now charged in a Kent murder is also under investigation for a high‑speed crash on State Route 18 in Federal Way that killed an 18‑year‑old woman and a 4‑year‑old girl in his car. Prosecutors say the Federal Way wreck happened as he allegedly fled a state trooper at over 100 mph, and detectives are linking the victims to the earlier Kent shooting case.
