Traffic backed up due to emergency repairs on State Route 16 (thenewstribune.com) — If you're heading west toward Gig Harbor today, expect major slowdowns on State Route 16 as crews rush to repair a damaged guardrail near the Purdy/Key Center exit. WSDOT says the work can't be delayed because of safety concerns, so drivers should budget extra time and check the agency's real‑time traffic map before getting on the highway.
   

2. The Story of the KP Highway, Part II (keypennews.org) — A century ago, driving between Gig Harbor, Purdy, and Longbranch meant muddy ditches, washed‑out sandspits, and steep, rutted hills instead of today's paved Key Peninsula Highway. This second installment traces how state "Permanent Highway" funding, new bridges, and redesigned curves slowly transformed those rough wagon roads into a continuous Gig Harbor‑Longbranch route that opened the peninsula to growth by the 1920s and 1930s.
   

3. A dahlia delight for nursing home residents (gigharbornow.org) — Residents at Cottesmore of Life Care in Gig Harbor enjoyed a more colorful Senior Prom thanks to buckets of homegrown dahlias donated by first-time flower gardener Jessica McLain. Her generous gift brightened the event for more than 50 attendees and even left enough blooms to decorate staff areas, and she hopes to keep sharing flowers with local nursing homes until the first frost.
   

4. High school football roundup: Gig Harbor earns signature win against Lincoln (thenewstribune.com) — Gig Harbor High's football team edged Lincoln 31-28 on Friday night, capped by a clutch 28-yard field goal that restored some shine after their Fish Bowl loss to Peninsula. The Tides controlled much of the game with strong rushing and timely defense, then held off a furious Lincoln comeback to secure a key South Sound win.
