Here are Pierce Co. food scores for Aug. 27 (thenewstribune.com) — Recent health inspections found significant food-safety violations at several Pierce County eateries, including Kinza Teriyaki on Kimball Drive and Family Thai Hut on Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor. Issues ranged from improper cooling of fried chicken to repeated room-temperature storage of sprouts and noodles, prompting discarded food and a required risk-control plan for the Harborview restaurant.

2. Popular bagel shop moving to new Pierce County location with a bigger menu (thenewstribune.com) — A beloved downtown Gig Harbor spot, B's Bagels & Butters, is moving from Uddenberg Lane to the larger former O'Looney's Irish Pub space on 56th Street, aiming to reopen by spring 2027. The bigger location will support wholesale production, an expanded menu with daily challah and soups, and possibly smoothies, while the current shop continues operating during the transition.

3. Island View Market owner hoping to find a new steward to buy the shop (gigharbornow.org) — A longtime Ray Nash Drive staple, Island View Market is up for sale as owner Jerry Montiel looks for a buyer who will preserve its neighborhood feel and waterfront access. Regulars from Gig Harbor and nearby communities rely on the shop for snacks, essentials, and coffee, and the property includes a cottage rental, dock, and 200 feet of shoreline.

4. Pierce County Library System receives national grant (pierceprairiepost.com) — Families using the Gig Harbor branch of the Pierce County Library System can now request youth sensory kits during visits, thanks to a new $10,000 national grant. Designed for children from birth to age 12, the in-library kits include items like lap pads, ear protection, and visual timers to make library spaces more comfortable and accessible for kids with sensory needs.
