1. One Kirkland beach closes due to bacteria as another one reopens (mynorthwest.com) — Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland is closed to swimmers for at least a week after tests found elevated bacteria levels that could make people and pets sick, though the rest of the park remains open. Houghton Beach has just reopened following improved water tests, and residents can track current beach status and bacteria readings through King County's public dashboard before heading to the lake.
   

2. Oakland Rain to Open for Judy Collins Fall 2026 U.S. Tour (broadwayworld.com) — Judy Collins' fall tour with Norwegian duo Oakland Rain is bringing a show to Kirkland, with a September 30 performance at the Kirkland Performing Arts Center. The tour highlights their long-running collaboration and a documentary about their work together. Local music fans can plan ahead now to catch a rare, intimate folk concert close to home.
   

3. PCC Nominations for the Labor Management advisory Committee are open! — UFCW 3000 (ufcw3000.org) — PCC workers in Kirkland will soon be able to nominate themselves or coworkers for new Labor Management Advisory Committee seats, with online nominations open September 21–25. The committee helps shape decisions on profit‑sharing, staffing, training, and store operations across PCC. If you work at the Kirkland store, this is a chance to influence workplace changes and represent your coworkers' concerns.
   

4. Kirkland dad sues Lake Washington district over Pride lesson (seattlered.com) — A Kirkland father is suing the Lake Washington School District in federal court, arguing he should have been allowed to opt his son out of a Pride Month classroom lesson at Thoreau Elementary. The case centers on parental notification and religious rights, and could influence how local schools handle LGBTQ-related instruction, opt-outs, and communication with Kirkland families going forward.

  • A bold bobcat has been hanging out around McAuliffe Park and the surrounding neighborhood in Kirkland.
