The teacher is no longer with the district, and officials say they’re reviewing practices and training as the student and her family push for stronger accountability and safer classrooms.

Guilty verdict in 2024 Lake Stevens murder case (lynnwoodtimes.com) — A man has been found guilty in the 2024 Lake Stevens murder that shocked many local residents, following a months-long investigation by Snohomish County detectives. Jurors convicted 58-year-old Mark Downey of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon after DNA evidence and his own statements linked him to the fatal stabbing. Sentencing is set for June 4 in Snohomish County Superior Court.
   

3. 72-year-old Lake Stevens man killed in semitruck collision near Marysville (lynnwoodtimes.com) — A Lake Stevens couple was involved in a deadly State Route 9 collision northeast of Marysville on Wednesday, with the 72-year-old male passenger pronounced dead at the scene and the driver hospitalized. Washington State Patrol says their car slid into oncoming traffic and was hit by a semitruck, with speed too fast for conditions cited as the cause.
   

4. Prep track and field: Everett prevails at multi-team meet (heraldnet.com) — Lake Stevens track and field athletes hosted Kamiak on Thursday, with the Vikings winning the boys meet and narrowly dropping the girls contest. The multi-team Wesco roundup also highlights results for nearby schools, giving Lake Stevens families a quick snapshot of how local competitors fared across the league.
