1. 5 recommended changes to Longview schools' safety policies (bellinghamherald.com) — An outside investigator is urging Longview School District to tighten harassment, bullying, hazing, and reporting policies after sexual assault allegations at Mark Morris High School. Recommended changes include clearer Title IX coordination, stricter locker room rules, stronger mandatory reporting language, and revamped student conduct expectations, all of which could significantly affect how Longview schools handle student safety going forward.

2. Families begin receiving Nippon community donations (thenewstribune.com subscription) — Families of the Nippon Dynawave workers killed or injured in Longview are now beginning to receive most of the money raised through the Longview Impacted Worker Fund. A seven-member committee will distribute 90% of donations to the 11 deceased workers’ families and one permanently disabled worker, while 10% aids others with injury-related needs, and local residents are encouraged to keep donating through year’s end.

3. Police: Youth jumps from moving vehicle in Longview Tuesday (tncontentexchange.com) — Emergency crews responded Monday after a young person reportedly jumped from a moving vehicle on Third Avenue in Longview, near a bus stop by PT Northwest Physical Therapy. Longview police say the juvenile appeared to leap intentionally, and Longview Fire transported one person to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, though officials have not released the person’s condition.

4. Destinee Marie Navarro (klog.com) — Longview residents are mourning the death of 27-year-old baker Destinee Marie Navarro, a Longview mother remembered for her creativity in the kitchen and deep love for her children. Family and friends can honor her life at a service Tuesday, August 11, at Northwood Park Funeral Home in Ridgefield, with the family requesting donations instead of flowers.
