How Diking District 1 flushed spilled white liquor from Longview sloughs (tri-cityherald.com) — Longview’s ditch and pump system has finished flushing diluted “white liquor” after the deadly Nippon Dynawave tank rupture, and current pH readings in local sloughs are back in normal ranges. City hydrants, Lake Sacajawea, logging ponds, and the Cowlitz River all fed the emergency effort, while officials stress Longview’s drinking water comes from a protected aquifer and continues to be closely monitored.

Worker injured after falling into hydro pulper pit at Longview paper mill (kptv.com) — A worker at Longview’s WestRock paper mill was rescued Wednesday after falling into a hydro pulper pit and was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Longview Fire and Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue used ladders and a rescue basket to reach him, and state labor officials may review what caused the incident.
