📰 News we're reading

• Groundbreaking event celebrates new low-income housing (heraldnet.com) — A major 124-unit affordable housing complex called Leonard Crossing is moving forward in Marysville, with construction expected to start this year across from the Cedar and Grove Park & Ride and leasing projected for 2028. Local leaders, including Mayor Jon Nehring and the Housing Authority of Snohomish County, say the more-than-$40 million project will help address the city’s pressing need for lower-cost homes.

• Heat advisory affecting Puget Sound region from Sunday to Tuesday (thenewstribune.com) — Marysville is under a National Weather Service heat advisory from late Sunday morning through early Tuesday, with highs near 85–90 degrees and warm nights that could strain those without good cooling. Residents are urged to hydrate, avoid peak afternoon heat, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave kids or pets in cars as conditions may trigger heat-related illnesses.

• Tumbler tussle: Seattle's MiiR sues Tesla, alleging copied cup design (geekwire.com) — A Seattle drinkware company with a production and warehouse facility in Marysville is suing Tesla, claiming the automaker copied the patented lid and look of its 360 Traveler Tumbler. While the federal case unfolds in Seattle, the outcome could affect a local employer that donates part of its revenue to community causes and relies on its distinctive product design.
