• Long-awaited Pierce County trail opens this summer. Crews install footbridge (thenewstribune.com) — A new 1.8‑mile Parkland Community Trail linking Sprinker Recreation Center, Parkland Prairie and Pacific Lutheran University is slated to fully open by late summer, with a new Clover Creek footbridge already in place. The county is adding safer crossings, signage, landscaping and public art, and nearby residents can apply for up to six free trees through the Trees for Trails program until September 7, 2026.
   

• Vicitms of Nippon Dynawave died from alkaline chemical burns (fox13seattle.com) — Cowlitz County officials have confirmed that all 11 people who died in the May 26 Nippon Dynawave mill implosion in Longview succumbed primarily to alkaline chemical burns, with two victims suffering additional injuries. While this tragedy is outside Parkland, the outlet also highlights other regional stories, including a linked brief about an arrest in a Parkland homicide case.
