📰 News we're reading

1. Flights to Portland return to Tri-Cities Airport after 7 years (tri-cityherald.com) — Nonstop flights between Pasco’s Tri-Cities Airport and Portland are back after a seven-year gap, giving local travelers easier access to 66 additional destinations. Airport Director Buck Taft says both inaugural flights were full and stresses that keeping the route depends on strong community use, calling the restored service a sign of the region’s economic strength.

2. Pasco paraeducator fired, criminal investigation underway (applevalleynewsnow.com) — Pasco parents are being told that a Ray Reynolds Middle School paraeducator has been fired and is under criminal investigation after reports of inappropriate contact with a student. District leaders say they immediately notified Pasco Police, removed the substitute from employment, and pledged full cooperation with investigators while emphasizing their commitment to student safety.

3. Washington begins annual invasive pest survey (nbcrightnow.com) — Pasco is one of several south-central Washington cities where state agriculture crews are trapping and treating for destructive Japanese beetles, and residents there can opt in for free, reduced-risk insecticide treatments. Officials warn that without strong local participation, the beetles could threaten home gardens, parks, and farms, so Pasco households in treatment zones are urged to give consent and report any disturbed traps.

4. Shelter Dog in Need of Extra Love Looks Back Longingly When the Kennel Door Shuts (dogtime.com) — A Pasco-based shelter volunteer is drawing attention to Chynna, a gentle, mellow dog waiting for adoption at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in nearby Kennewick. Her video shows the pup’s calm demeanor and heartbreaking glance back as the kennel door closes, encouraging Tri-Cities residents, especially those in Pasco, to consider giving Chynna a new home.
