📰 News we're reading
• Renton High School replacement will cost extra $5.3 million (rentonreporter.com) — Renton residents face an additional $5.3 million going into the new Renton High School project, after the school board approved early HVAC procurement to lock in equipment ahead of construction. Funded through the district's capital projects fund, which relies heavily on local taxes, the expanded budget reflects sharply rising construction and land costs as work ramps up toward a planned 2029 campus opening.

• Renton Police seek public's help to identify assault suspect (rentonreporter.com) — Renton Police are asking local residents to help identify a man suspected of sexually motivated assault along the Longacres walking trail near Oakesdale Avenue SW on Sept. 12. If you were in nearby areas that morning or have dashcam footage, detectives want to hear from you, and officers urge everyone using local trails to stay alert and report suspicious behavior.

• WinCo grocery coming to Seattle's Aurora Ave. in 2027 (kitsapsun.com) — Shoppers in Renton already have a new WinCo that opened August 3, and now the chain is planning its first Seattle store on Aurora Avenue within the next year. Local advocates have challenged the Seattle project over environmental concerns, but permit filings show WinCo still working toward opening, which could shift where many South King County residents choose to shop in bulk.
