📰 News we're reading

1. Region's latest pedestrian bridge taking shape in Shoreline (kiro7.com) — A new pedestrian bridge over I-5 at 145th is rising in Shoreline, set to give many residents a much shorter and safer walk to the coming light rail station. The city and WSDOT will fully close I-5 for one night this fall to move the bridge into place, with completion targeted for spring 2027. State and federal funds are covering the $40 million project.

2. KCRHA Transition Update: Building the Next Phase of the Regional Homelessness Response (kcrha.org) — Shoreline's homelessness services are in for a structural shift as the King County Regional Homelessness Authority stops administering local contracts and ends its interlocal agreement with North King County cities. King County and Seattle will take contracts back in-house while KCRHA focuses on regional data, coordination, and federal funding, aiming to keep services stable for people experiencing homelessness.

3. Jobs: WSDOT Project Engineer (shorelineareanews.com) — A new WSDOT project engineer position is based right in Shoreline, overseeing major highway construction projects across the Northwest Region. The role focuses on keeping projects on time and on budget while improving safety, accessibility, and sustainability for all travelers. Interested residents can review qualifications and application details through the provided link.

4. The Sears basement (shorelineareanews.com) — Longtime residents may enjoy this look back at the old Sears at Aurora Square, now Shoreline Place, including memories of its huge hidden basement. A former employee shares stories of the auto shop, storage rooms, and behind-the-scenes operations before the store closed in 2018. It's a nostalgic snapshot of how a once-bustling Shoreline landmark operated.

5. Jackson boys tennis tops Shorewood in battle of state champs (heraldnet.com) — Shoreline sports fans saw a high-powered boys tennis showdown at Shorewood High School as defending 4A champion Jackson topped reigning 3A champ Shorewood 6-1. Despite the lopsided score, coaches viewed the non-league opener as a valuable early test, especially for Shorewood's newer varsity players stepping into bigger roles this season.
