1. 2026 Every Woman Can PNW Pink Ribbon Run (khq.com) — A major breast cancer awareness run and walk is coming to Manito Park in Spokane on Sunday, Oct. 4, giving locals a chance to support patients right here in the community. Proceeds fund comfort bags, hot meals, and housecleaning for people in treatment, so registering means directly helping neighbors while enjoying a hopeful morning with family and friends.
   

2. Popular trails at Camp Sekani reopen to bikers and hikers (929zzu.com) — Camp Sekani's popular trails in Spokane are open again after months of closure from the Upriver Fire, though the main parking lot remains closed for Beacon Hill project construction. Hikers and bikers can use nearby lots at John Shields and Minnehaha parks, enjoy a mostly restored disc golf course, and are urged to stay on rebuilt paths as crews keep monitoring erosion.
   

3. FEMA ends wildfire period as eastern Washington awaits more aid (wheninyourstate.com) — Spokane County residents recovering from this summer's wildfires are seeing FEMA's official incident period end, but several forms of state and federal help remain available. Cleanup crews have already removed hazardous materials from hundreds of local properties, tax deadlines are extended into early 2027, and Washington may still seek a Major Disaster Declaration that could unlock additional aid for affected households.

The Magic of Spokane's Hobbit House (stonewallnews.net) — Hidden in a Spokane neighborhood, a lovingly crafted "Hobbit House" has evolved into a community art landmark that draws visitors from across the region. Owners Ryan Oelrich and Robert Thompson host Halloween traditions, a little free library, scavenger hunts, and spontaneous ornament exchanges, turning their yard into a shared space where neighbors and strangers alike help shape the magic.
   

5. Front Porch Bluegrass: September 27, 2026 (spokanepublicradio.org) — Spokane Public Radio's "Front Porch Bluegrass" shared a late-September playlist featuring artists like Sierra Hull, Della Mae, Doc Watson and Tony Rice. Local bluegrass fans can use this set list to revisit songs they heard on air or discover new tracks that match the show's mix of contemporary and classic acoustic sounds.
