📰 News we're reading

• Fireworks restrictions for the 4th of July in Sunnyside (nbcrightnow.com) — Sunnyside residents can only set off approved fireworks on July 4 between 11 a.m. and midnight, with a required permit from City Hall obtained by July 3 and no use on public property. Certain explosive or aerial fireworks remain banned altogether, even with a permit, as the city tightens rules after past fire incidents. Neighbors are encouraged to enjoy the community celebration and fireworks show at Clem Senn Stadium at Sunnyside High School instead of private displays.

• Sunnyside Mayor Vicky Frausto responds to recall petition circulating online (applevalleynewsnow.com) — Sunnyside Mayor Vicky Frausto is pushing back against an online recall petition that targets both her and Councilmember Julia Hart, calling the allegations false and distracting. The petition accuses her of interfering in hiring and sharing confidential information, and organizers are planning their first signature-gathering event for July 4. Frausto says she’ll keep focusing on community needs and is prepared to defend herself in court if necessary.

• Newhouse Votes to Secure Funding to Meet America's Infrastructure, Housing Demands (realestaterama.com) — Central Washington Rep. Dan Newhouse has advanced a federal spending bill that includes $2 million to replace Sunnyside’s aging, unsafe Edison Bridge, a key farm‑to‑market route. The project would modernize the crossing, improve traffic flow and safety, and unlock larger state infrastructure work that depends on the bridge being rebuilt. Several other regional transportation and community projects also receive funding in the package.
