Tacoma Rising Announces Second Edition of Challenge Event (southsoundbiz.com) ā Tacoma students and mentors will gather April 24 at UW Tacomaās William Phillip Hall to tackle how to revitalize Pacific Avenue and boost downtown foot traffic. The second annual Tacoma Rising Challenge invites the public to watch final presentations that afternoon, showcasing student ideas to strengthen Tacomaās core business strip.

Pierce County leaders push for light rail expansion (fox13seattle.com) ā Tacomaās long-promised light rail to the Tacoma Dome is at risk as Sound Transit faces a $34.5 billion funding gap and considers ending the extension in Fife instead. Pierce County leaders argue that would shortchange Tacoma taxpayers and worsen congestion for thousands of commuters. A final decision on the route and cost-cutting options is expected by early summer.

Record Store Day returns Saturday with exclusive releases, vinyl rarities (king5.com) ā Hi-Voltage Records in Tacoma will open at 7 a.m. Saturday for Record Store Day, drawing early lines for exclusive vinyl releases. Local collectors can hunt for special Taylor Swift, Olivia Dean, Brandi Carlile and Talking Heads records, plus unique picture discs and mini turntables, as the annual celebration of independent shops returns.
