1. Lt. Governor shares his ideas on fixing housing shortage to members of BIA of Clark County (clarkcountytoday.com) — Washington Lt. Gov. Denny Heck came back to Vancouver to urge local builders to help tackle the state’s severe housing shortage, saying Washington needs about a million more homes in 20 years. Speaking at Heathman Lodge, he pushed for easier building rules, a new state Department of Housing, and a strong focus on starter homes to unlock the market.

Vancouver boy, 17, accused in drive-by shooting pleads guilty to assault, drug charges (columbian.com) — A 17-year-old Vancouver boy has been sentenced to state juvenile rehabilitation after pleading guilty to second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and a marijuana dealing charge tied to a July drive-by shooting in Vancouver. Clark County Juvenile Court records show his adult charges were dismissed, and he’ll serve roughly one to 1¼ years, with credit for eight months already in custody.

Sakura Festival celebrates spring, friendships and blooming cherry trees (columbian.com) — Clark College’s Sakura Festival brought hundreds of people together in Vancouver to celebrate blooming cherry trees, Japanese culture, and the city’s international friendships. Speakers highlighted how 200 Shirofugen cherry trees, first gifted to the city in 1990, have become a lasting symbol of connection between Vancouver and its Japanese partners.

TD Sea Scouts return from coastal Regatta with strong finishes, lasting lessons (columbiacommunityconnection.com) — Sea Scout teams from around the Northwest, including one from Vancouver recently competed in a coastal skills regatta at Camp Rilea near Astoria.
