Marion Co. superintendent clarifies gifted program schedule after parent concerns (wvnews.com) — Marion County’s superintendent says middle school gifted students in Fairmont will keep their regular daily schedules, despite recent parent concerns. Instead of moving to a separate school, gifted students will take a monthly in-county field trip to the STEAM Center near East Fairmont Middle to collaborate with peers. Parents will soon receive detailed information on the updated model. 
2. Marion County Public Library's Summer Reading program draws 342 participants (wvnews.com) — Fairmont readers can celebrate a strong turnout for Marion County Public Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program, which drew 342 participants and over 38,000 minutes of reading from elementary students. Although the program has wrapped up, the main Fairmont branch is offering American Mahjong classes in August and September, along with regular crafts, book clubs, and other activities for all ages.
3. School board president calls for focus on district mission amid Marion County lawsuits (wvnews.com) — In a Fairmont work session, Marion County school leaders tried to refocus on students and funding challenges just days after lawsuits were filed against the Board of Education and superintendent. Officials detailed how school choice and the HOPE Scholarship have shifted more than 1,200 students out of public schools, costing the county an estimated $5 million and intensifying concerns about attendance and engagement, especially in middle schools.
4. W.Va. Regional Wrestling Host Sites, Realignments Announced (theintelligencer.net) — High school wrestling fans in Fairmont will see Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont placed in new regional alignments for the 2026–27 season. Fairmont Senior joins the North Regional hosted at Brooke High School, while East Fairmont competes in a Division II regional at St. Marys, changes coaches say should create fairer brackets and better state tournament representation.
