Former Mon Schools superintendent will fill vacant BOE seat (dominionpost.com) — Morgantown’s Monongalia Board of Education has tapped former superintendent Frank Devono to fill a vacant seat and swear him in at the June 23 meeting. Devono, who oversaw projects like the new University High’s move from downtown Morgantown, returns as the board also approves a new behavioral analyst for the EXCEL Center and a $460,000 milk contract for local schools.

2. How much does Honor Flight North Central West Virignia cost? (wboy.com) — Morgantown-area residents are being asked to help fund Honor Flight North Central West Virginia’s bus trips that take local veterans to Washington, D.C. at no cost to them. Organizers say switching from planes to three-day bus trips has cut expenses dramatically and made the journey easier on older veterans, and they’re halfway to funding a September trip.

WVU researchers use pulsars to search for gravitational waves with NSF funding (wvnews.com) — From MorgantownU physicists are leading a $5.9 million NSF-backed effort using pulsars as ultra-precise clocks to probe low-frequency gravitational waves. Their work, tied to the Green Bank Telescope and NANOGrav, could reveal how supermassive black holes and even the early universe shaped the cosmos, while also bringing research opportunities to local students and educators.

4. Next of kiln: Service League of Morgantown explores city's history of pottery making with young students (dominionpost.com) — Kids from around Morgantown are glazing their own pottery this week in a hands-on workshop organized by the Service League of Morgantown. Partnering with The WOW! Factory, the Old Stone House, and the Morgantown History Museum, organizers are using creative projects and historic tours to connect young students with the city’s early pottery-making roots.

5. Study: Less sedentary time, more light activity may lower key health risk in pregnancy (uiowa.edu) — Pregnant women in Morgantown took part in a major University of Iowa-led study suggesting that less sitting, more light movement, and adequate sleep can significantly cut the risk of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Researchers tracked 470 women, including those enrolled at a Morgantown site, and found that limiting sedentary time and adding several hours of light activity daily offered the biggest benefits across all trimesters.
