WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center opens expanded ICU (theintelligencer.net) ā Weirton residents can now access a larger, fully staffed Intensive Care Unit right at WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center, keeping critically ill patients closer to home and family. The expanded ICU is led by board-certified intensivists providing 24/7 coverage, a model shown to improve survival, reduce complications, and shorten hospital stays for the community.

2. WVU Medicine awards $20 million for new cancer treatment center at Weirton Medical Center (wtov9.com) ā Weirton residents can expect a major boost in local cancer care, with WVU Medicine committing about $20 million to build a new 17,000-square-foot cancer treatment center at Weirton Medical Center by 2029. The facility, affiliated with the WVU Cancer Institute, will expand chemotherapy services and bring radiation oncology to the city for the first time, reducing the need to travel for advanced treatment.

3. Weirton wastewater plant upgrade nears completion (weirtondailytimes.com) ā Weirtonās wastewater treatment plant expansion is essentially finished, doubling capacity from 4 to 8 million gallons per day and positioning the city for new industrial growth. Final work and cleanup will continue into late May, while the second tier of sewer rate increases that fund the $38 million project has already taken effect and will appear on bills starting in May.

4. Weirton water board seeks funding for major line replacement project (weirtondailytimes.com) ā Weirtonās water system is in line for major upgrades, with $3.34 million in new state funding secured for the Walnut Street line project and more support being sought. The Weirton Area Water Board is pursuing additional federal and state dollars toward a $190 million, PSC-ordered replacement of aging cast-iron and galvanized lines citywide, with construction targeted to start in 2028 and finish by mid-2029.

5. Route 2 bridge project to begin Monday in Weirton (weirtondailytimes.com) ā Drivers in Weirton should prepare for major, long-term changes on Route 2 as the state begins replacing the Weirton Steel Overhead Bridge Monday, closing the two northbound lanes through April 2027. Traffic will be shifted to the southbound side while crews rebuild the structurally deficient bridge and adjust nearby roads and rail access to support industrial development.
