Arrival of spring brings Wheeling's playgrounds and dog parks back to life (wtov9.com) ā Wheelingās parks, playgrounds, and dog parks are buzzing again as city crews finish spring preparations and add new features like agility equipment at Fitzsimmons Dog Park. With pool upgrades underway and city pools set to open June 6, officials are still urgently hiring lifeguards to fully staff all four public pools and splash areas.

WVU Medicine approves $350M in projects, including new St. Clairsville Hospital (wtrf.com) ā Wheeling residents should know WVU Medicine is investing $56 million in Wheeling Hospital to create a new community hospital in nearby St. Clairsville, Ohio, consolidating outpatient services and adding emergency and inpatient care. Leaders hope to break ground as early as June and finish the two-phase project in about 15 months, expanding access for many Ohio Valley patients who already rely on Wheeling-based care.

Wheeling University Students Present Projects During Annual Research Day (theintelligencer.net) ā Wheeling University students just wrapped up their 2026 Research Day and Scholarship Symposium, filling campus with more than 70 poster and oral presentations across multiple majors. Faculty say the growing event gives Cardinals hands-on experience sharing their work and building professional skills, from athletic training and nursing to business and psychology, all right here in Wheeling.

Leadership Wheeling Alumni Association Hosts Aspiring Leaders Summit (theintelligencer.net) ā Aspiring leaders from around Wheeling gathered Thursday at Wheeling Universityās Troy Theater for the first Leadership Wheeling Alumni Association summit. Local business and nonprofit pros led talks and panels on leadership and entrepreneurship, while organizers encouraged residents to consider the long-running Leadership Wheeling program run by the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce.

5. Runner with Parkinson's on 100-marathon trek (theintermountain.com) ā A 71-year-old New Jersey runner living with Parkinsonās stopped in Wheeling on Friday as part of his quest to complete 100 marathons in 100 days across the country. His visit highlighted West Virginiaās high Parkinsonās rates and promoted his Strides For Humanity fundraiser, which has already brought in nearly $200,000 for research and support.
