Beloit man identified as industrial accident fatality (gazettextra.com) — Several Beloit residents have now died following steam-related accidents at the NaturPak pet food plant in Janesville, including 30-year-old Gerardo Vargas Soto, who succumbed to injuries on April 11. Two other men, one from Beloit and one from Rockford, also died after a separate March explosion, and multiple agencies are investigating what went wrong.

2. Sandbag materials available for people in Beloit (wmtv15news.com) — Beloit residents can pick up sand and sandbags at Telfer Park on Cranston Road to prepare for flooding along Turtle Creek, which is at flood stage and may crest around 10 feet. A flood warning is in effect until Saturday morning, with particular concern for homes on Moccasin Trail, Bootmaker Drive, East Ridge Road, Boulder Lane, Rockfence Lane, and Arrowhead Road.

3. Rock County supervisor recount vote leads to new leader (wrex.com) — A recount has flipped the Rock County Supervisor District 8 race, which includes Town of Beloit wards 1 and 13, putting Bryce O’Leary ahead by one vote. Three randomly removed absentee ballots, all for Daniel Burke, changed the totals. Burke now has five business days to decide whether to appeal the recount outcome.

4. Preliminary hearing set for Town of Turtle homicide suspect (gazettextra.com) — A Town of Turtle mother accused of killing her 14-year-old daughter, a Beloit Memorial High School honor-roll student, is headed for a preliminary hearing on April 24. Authorities say she called to report the killing and her own self-inflicted wounds before being taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital. Friends have raised funds to help the victim’s brother with funeral costs.

Milwaukee Basketball Adds Wisconsin 'Mr. Basketball' Finalist Amare Hereford (mkepanthers.com) — Beloit hoops fans can celebrate as hometown star Amare Hereford, a Beloit Memorial all-time leading scorer and Mr. Basketball finalist, commits to play for Milwaukee next season. After averaging 37.5 points and leading Memorial to a 24-3 year, he’ll carry Beloit’s name onto the Division I stage while representing both his city and state.
