• Dedication of Civil War Monument at St. Killian Cemetery in Hartford, Wi (washingtoncountyinsider.com) — Residents in Hartford recently gathered at St. Killian Cemetery on Union Street to dedicate a new monument honoring 11 Civil War veterans buried there. Volunteers with the Washington County Civil War Monument Committee funded the memorial privately and say it helps preserve local military history even as older headstones fade.
   

• Public health department shares free cooling sites ahead of warmer weather (gmtoday.com) — Hartford residents can cool off for free at Senior Friends Inc. on Highland Avenue, one of several Washington County cooling sites open during extreme heat. The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department is sharing hours and locations at libraries, the YMCA, and senior centers so people can safely escape dangerous temperatures this summer.
   

• Michael J. Fechter, 75, of West Bend, Wi (washingtoncountyinsider.com) — Hartford readers are connected to this obituary through Michael Fechter’s later career at Helgensen Industries in town, where he shared his welding and machining expertise. The longtime West Bend resident, devoted husband, father, and grandfather died June 7 in Florida, and his family plans a funeral service in West Bend on August 8, 2026.
