• New winner declared by razor-thin margin in Rock Co. election (wifr.com) — A razor-thin Rock County Board race based in Janesville has flipped after a recount, with Bryce O’Leary now leading Daniel Burke 616–615. Three randomly discarded absentee ballots, all originally for Burke, changed the outcome, and Burke has five business days to appeal in circuit court.
   

• Local author's book describes what MLB's earlier breaking of the color barrier might have looked like (gazettextra.com) — A Janesville Parker High School graduate and former Janesville Gazette staffer has written a new “what-if” baseball book imagining Major League integration in 1934. Beloit author John Graf will discuss the project, its Negro League ties, and local connections at a free Beloit Public Library event on Saturday, May 2, where attendees can also buy signed, discounted copies.
   

• Rock County Sheriff Awards presented (gazettextra.com) — Rock County’s Sheriff’s Office has announced this year’s award recipients, highlighting lifesaving rescues, major investigations, and leadership that directly affect Janesville and surrounding communities. Several honorees live in or assist Janesville, from a Craig High School graduate now overseeing courthouse security to deputies responding to emergencies at the Janesville landfill and across Rock County’s lakes and highways.
