• La Crosse Police and Fire Departments partner for firework safety campaign (weau.com) — La Crosse’s police and fire departments are launching a summer-long campaign to remind residents about fireworks safety and local laws. City officials stress that any fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal, carry a $502 citation, and can seriously harm people, pets, and vulnerable neighbors, urging residents to stick to legal options and use them carefully.
   

• Copper Rocks project gets approval for next phase of rezoning (news8000.com) — La Crosse’s long-vacant K-Mart site on State Road is set for demolition later this summer after the Common Council approved the next phase of rezoning for the Copper Rocks housing project. Plans call for townhouses on Farnam Street and a five-story apartment building along Losey Boulevard, turning a prominent empty retail spot into new homes for local residents.
   

• La Crosse man charged after 16-year-old strangled (wxow.com) — Prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old La Crosse man after a 16-year-old reported being strangled and restrained during what police describe as an abusive relationship earlier this year. The man faces felony counts including strangulation and false imprisonment, was released on a signature bond, and is scheduled to return to court June 18.
