Wisconsin's Best High Schools Ranked In New Analysis (patch.com) — Families in and around Madison can see how local schools stack up in Niche's new 2027 rankings, with West High School and Vel Phillips Memorial earning A grades among top public schools statewide. Madison Country Day School in nearby Waunakee leads all Wisconsin private high schools, and Edgewood High School in Madison also makes the top 25, giving area parents several highly rated options to compare.
   

2. Madison Finance Committee unanimously approves funding for 220 police body cameras (wmtv15news.com) — Madison's Finance Committee has unanimously backed funding to buy about 220 body cameras, aiming to equip nearly all patrol officers by early summer 2027 if the full Common Council agrees. The plan accelerates spending into 2027, mixes city borrowing with an expected federal grant and private support, and relies on a workgroup now finalizing detailed camera policies.
   

3. DNR's Madison Service Center will close Sept. 30 (ibmadison.com) — State natural resources offices in downtown Madison will close to the public on Sept. 30 as staff move from the GEF2 building to the Hill Farms complex on the west side. You will need an appointment to visit the new field office, and in-person license or registration services now shift to the Fitchburg Service Center or online options.
   

4. Belleville Police looking for male bicyclist who physically assaulted two children (wmtv15news.com) — Police are asking Dane County residents, including those in the Madison area, for help identifying a bicyclist who allegedly assaulted two children on the Badger State Trail near Belleville. The man, described as a white male in his 30s or 40s wearing gray and black spandex and a black helmet, was last seen near County Highway A in the Town of Montrose.
   

5. Wisconsin football earning national recognition, builds momentum heading into Week 5 after historic comeback at Penn State (wmtv15news.com) — After a dramatic comeback win at Penn State, the Wisconsin Badgers return to Madison preparing for a high-profile homecoming matchup against Michigan State at Camp Randall. Coach Luke Fickell, newly honored as National Coach of the Week, is urging players to stay grounded as they chase a longer home winning streak and build on their growing national attention.
