Wisconsin Wants Your Ideas For Spending Opioid Settlement Money (patch.com) — Madison-based state health officials are asking Wisconsinites to share ideas on how to use more than $874 million in opioid settlement funds, with an online survey open through Sept. 30. The Department of Health Services, headquartered in Madison, wants feedback to shape prevention, treatment, and recovery strategies as overdose deaths decline but remain a serious concern statewide. 
2. How much UW-Madison could get in UW system's $730M budget request (captimes.com) — UW–Madison could see a major boost in state funding, a possible tuition freeze for residents, and long-sought upgrades like demolishing the aging Humanities Building and adding up to 2,000 new dorm beds. Regents just advanced a $730 million operating request and $2 billion capital plan, which now depend on state approval and fall election outcomes.
3. Madison Common Council to host virtual town hall about city's response to Willy Street protest (wmtv15news.com) — Madison's Common Council is holding a virtual town hall Monday evening to discuss how the city handled last month's protests on Willy Street after police shot and killed Corey Ruiz. Residents can join from home and are encouraged to email questions and comments to allalders@cityofmadison.com in advance.
4. MMSD to join vaccine clinic at Back 2 School Free Haircutz (madison.com) — Families in Madison can get free vaccinations for kids ages 5–18 this Sunday at the Back 2 School Free Haircutz event at the Alliant Energy Center's Exhibition Hall. MMSD and local health partners will review immunization records, give required school vaccines, and offer shoe gift cards to the first 80 vaccinated children.
5. Local teams shine on opening night of high school football (wmtv15news.com) — High school football kicked off around the Madison area with Madison West delivering a dominant 49–0 shutout and Monona Grove cruising to a 42–0 win. Other regional matchups saw Portage, Bay Port, and West De Pere notch convincing victories, setting an early tone for an action-packed local season.
