Body cameras, jail backlogs dominate public services committee (gazettextra.com) — Marinette County officials are weighing a costly five-year body camera and video upgrade while grappling with a crowded jail, most of whose inmates are still awaiting sentencing. At a recent Public Services Committee meeting, leaders tied the backlog to statewide attorney shortages and questioned whether a future $15 million jail expansion is necessary. Child support collections in Marinette County are also improving with focused case work. 
2. Marinette County weighs $6 million road plan (gazettextra.com) — Marinette County leaders are considering borrowing $6 million between 2027 and 2029 to repair more than 100 miles of county roads while keeping the debt levy roughly flat for homeowners. Supervisors also debated forest road access, proposed higher easement and campsite fees, and heard how the popular Wheel Hike adaptive trail event could expand with new federal support.

Plea offer made to 16-year-old charged in drowning of Marinette teen (wtaq.com) — Marinette residents are watching closely as prosecutors offer a plea deal to a 16-year-old charged in connection with the drowning of 13-year-old Jakob Bowerman off a Marinette pier, with a key hearing set for August 7. Prosecutors say he threatened the teens at Lighthouse Park, then chased them at high speed before crashing, with a jury convicting him on most counts earlier this year.
5. Greenwood will lead The Fuller Center housing group (ehextra.com) — A Marinette-based housing nonprofit has tapped local crisis care leader Rachel Greenwood as its new executive director while she continues her work with the Marinette County Group Home Association. Greenwood, who has served on regional housing and veterans boards, will guide The Fuller Center for Housing River Cities as it pursues more affordable housing and small repair projects across the area.
