📰 News we're reading

• Tri-County Council has ongoing fundraiser for Lily's House (wjfw.com) — Minocqua residents can directly support domestic violence survivors by filling a “Change that Matters” jar and dropping it at Nicolet National Bank in town. The ongoing fundraiser honors longtime volunteer Lily Kongslien and helps keep Lily’s House operating as a safe haven for people in crisis across Forest, Oneida, and Vilas counties.

• Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad denied ballot access in Wisconsin Governor bid (wjfw.com) — A Minocqua-based political newcomer, Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad, has been denied a spot on the Wisconsin governor primary ballot after the state elections commission ruled he fell short of valid signatures. Bangstad insists he submitted enough and says commission members should have recused themselves, signaling he may keep fighting the decision. Residents may see continued political activity around his taproom and online presence.

• WI Elections Commission Denies Ballot Access for Some Candidates (urbanmilwaukee.com) — Wisconsin’s Elections Commission spent hours ruling on ballot challenges statewide and ultimately denied several candidates, including Minocqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad, who fell short of required signatures for his governor bid. While most legislative and congressional hopefuls survived challenges, this decision means Minocqua’s high-profile brewery owner is unlikely to appear on the statewide ballot this year.
