📰 News we're reading

• Charcoal Grill closes all locations, including West Bend and Oak Creek (jsonline.com) — Oak Creek residents just lost their local Charcoal Grill & Rotisserie, as the company abruptly shut down all five southeastern Wisconsin locations, leaving employees like Oak Creek manager Ashley Schmidt without jobs. Phone lines and social media pages have gone dark, and no explanation has been provided yet, ending a restaurant run that began in 1993.

• Kwik Trip athletes of the week announced by WIAC (madison.com) — Oak Creek volleyball fans can cheer for hometown sophomore libero Callie Panasuk, who was named a WIAC Kwik Trip athlete of the week after piling up 83 digs and helping UW-Oshkosh start 4-0. The conference roundup also spotlights standout performances from football, soccer, golf, and tennis players across Wisconsin's public universities.

• Like MCTS, FlexRide is still around but struggling (milwaukeenns.org) — Workers commuting to Oak Creek from Milwaukee still have access to FlexRide, the on-demand shuttle service, but funding cuts mean fewer drivers and limited capacity even as demand stays high. The nonprofit operator warns that short-term grants are running out, tying FlexRide's future to broader decisions about how Wisconsin funds public transportation and supports people who rely on it to reach jobs.
