📰 News we're reading

• Art educators honor Waunakee village staffer's collaboration (hngnews.com) — A Waunakee village staffer, Kyle West, is being honored statewide for years of collaboration that helped grow the community’s art scene and school partnerships. Her work with Create Waunakee, Paint the Plow, local murals, and events like Make Music Waunakee and the Waunakee Artisan Market continues to shape public art around town. Residents can also see local artist Paul Briskey’s exhibit at Peace Lutheran Church on June 18.

• Dane County Sheriff's Office covers Flock cameras, looks toward finding new provider (hngnews.com) — Dane County has ended its contract with Flock Safety license-plate cameras and is now seeking a new provider, a shift that matters to Waunakee because its police department has been part of the same camera network. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett says the county wants ALPR technology with stronger privacy safeguards while still helping solve crimes and find missing people. As contracts change across nearby communities, Waunakee’s future access to shared camera data could also evolve.

• Wisconsin Outdoor Track & Field: D1 Top Performances (milesplit.com) — Waunakee athletes made their mark in a loaded Division 1 track and field season, with freshman sprinter Ross Kidau clocking 10.70 in the 100 and distance runner Emily Berger earning recognition among top girls competitors. The roundup highlights standout performances from across Wisconsin, underscoring just how competitive the sprints, distance races, hurdles, and field events were this year. It’s a strong sign of future success for Waunakee track.
