📰 News we're reading
1. Casper PD Incident Report logs (9/28/26-9/30/26) (oilcity.news) — Casper residents can see a detailed breakdown of recent police calls, including traffic stops, accidents, disturbances, and assistance requests logged across city streets from Sept. 28–30. The Casper Police Department provides this summary and map as a public service, though exact addresses and some call details are withheld for privacy and accuracy reasons.

2. Platte River Trails, Central Wyoming Trails Alliance partner on west Casper project (oilcity.news) — New multi-use trails are planned for west Casper near Whispering Springs, with Platte River Trails and the Central Wyoming Trails Alliance designing 5–7 miles of routes for walkers, runners, and mountain bikers. The project, still in fundraising, includes a future bridge over a Casper Alcova Irrigation District ditch and aims to repair past motorized damage while creating sustainable, family-friendly recreation options.

3. Outdoors volunteers to clean up Coal Mountain Road between Casper and Glenrock Saturday (douglas-budget.com) — Casper-area volunteers are invited Saturday, Oct. 3, to help clean up a heavily used shooting area along Coal Mountain Road just outside town, where trash is putting continued public access at risk. The Natrona Converse Outdoor Recreation Collaborative and partners will host the 9 a.m.–noon effort, with clear directions from Casper and a request that minors attend with a parent or guardian.

4. Prospect (Ryan) Hill (nps.gov) — From Casper, you can follow detailed backroad directions to Prospect (Ryan) Hill, where emigrants once described a tough climb rewarded by sweeping views of the Sweetwater country. Today, visitors can still see those vistas, walk along marked Oregon, California, and Pony Express trail ruts, and explore a BLM interpretive turnout despite weathered exhibit panels.

5. State launches central firefighting bases (wyomingnews.com) — Casper is now home to Wyoming's new centralized firefighting helibase at Natrona County International Airport, housing helicopters and air tankers to speed wildfire response statewide. State leaders say pairing these aircraft with ground crews, including Douglas's Pronghorn Module, should keep more fires small while strengthening support for rural departments across Wyoming.
