• Bessemer man agreed to kill someone for $300 during meth deal, feds say (al.com) — Federal prosecutors say two men from Bessemer face meth distribution charges, and one is additionally accused of accepting $300 in a murder-for-hire scheme earlier this year. Bessemer police first arrested him on a state conspiracy charge in January, and the FBI later investigated, leading to a newly unsealed six-count federal indictment announced Thursday. 
• Honduran sentenced to 16 months prison time for illegally re-entering United States (wbrc.com) — A man from Honduras with a prior federal drug conviction has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for illegally re-entering the U.S., after authorities say he was found living in Bessemer. Bessemer police discovered him last October when responding to a 911 call from his roommate, which led to the federal immigration case detailed by prosecutors.
