Homicide at north Birmingham apartment complex is city's third in less than a week (al.com) — A man was fatally shot Monday morning in the parking lot of The Pointe North Apartments in north Birmingham, marking the city's 33rd homicide of the year and third in less than a week. Police are also highlighting two earlier September killings that led to murder and capital murder charges as investigators continue piecing together what happened.
   

4. Birmingham AFT president urges lawmakers to fully fund PEEHIP $222 million increase (abc3340.com) — Birmingham's AFT president is urging Alabama lawmakers to fully fund a proposed $222 million increase for the PEEHIP health insurance program, warning that higher premiums could erase recent teacher pay raises. He argues that stable, affordable coverage is crucial for Birmingham schools to recruit and retain educators as the state decides how to handle 2028 funding.
   

5. Birmingham police special operations teams make 86 arrests in weeklong crackdown (abc3340.com) — Birmingham's Special Operations Bureau made 86 arrests and seized 30 firearms during a weeklong enforcement push aimed at curbing violent crime across city neighborhoods. Officers focused on illegal guns, narcotics trafficking, and traffic violations, confiscating a wide range of drugs while logging hundreds of citizen contacts and traffic citations.
