• Greater Birmingham Humane Society urges pet adoptions (wvtm13.com) — The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is urgently asking local residents to adopt so every kennel can be emptied and more animals can be saved. With fully vetted pets ready for homes, leaders say adopting in Birmingham can prevent healthy animals from being euthanized for space and even help families avoid health issues tied to poorly bred pets.
   

• Lyric projector glitches but 'Amazing Live Sea Monkeys' swim in, save the day (al.com) — A packed crowd at Birmingham's Sidewalk Film Festival saw the Lyric Theatre projector overheat mid-showing of the documentary "Amazing Live Sea Monkeys," briefly knocking the movie off the screen. Director Aaron Schock joked with the audience, restarted the film within minutes, and later said Birmingham's warm response has outshone its South by Southwest premiere as he works to secure wider distribution.
   

• Alabama State wins inaugural Birmingham Football Classic (wvtm13.com) — Birmingham football fans just saw Alabama State rally past Southern 30-17 in the inaugural Birmingham Football Classic at Legion Field, sending the Mayor's Cup to Montgomery. Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. praised second-half defensive adjustments and said Birmingham feels like a second home as he extends his winning streak in the Magic City.
