Hoover Police seek pair in felony retail theft case; suspects fled in white Nissan Altima (abc3340.com) — Hoover police are asking residents to help identify two people wanted for questioning in a felony organized retail theft case, where clothing was taken after security tags were removed. The pair reportedly had a toddler with them and left in a white Nissan Altima. Anyone with information can contact Hoover detectives, 911, or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
   

2. Hoover City Council approves forensic audit request, preview... (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Hoover's City Council has approved a forensic audit request and reviewed Mayor Nick Derzis' proposed 2027 budget, which includes a 2% cost-of-living raise for city employees and major health plan changes. The proposal shifts Blue Cross fees to a cost-per-contract model, cutting about $420,000, and anticipates over $720,000 in new revenue, with a vote expected Sept. 28 at City Hall.
   

3. Hoover seeks state review after questions raised by outside financial review (abc3340.com) — Hoover's City Council is asking Alabama's state examiners to review questions raised by an outside firm's examination of nearly three years of city financial records. While no missing or misused funds have been identified, council members say they still don't know which receipts are in question or how much money is involved, and now await the state's decision on a deeper review.
   

4. September 10, 2026 (birminghamtimes.com) — Several legal notices confirm completion of HVAC and equipment upgrades for Hoover City Schools facilities, including Spain Park High School and Hoover Hall, and invite any remaining claims tied to that work. Hoover-based architects and engineers are listed as contacts, while additional Birmingham-area bids, court notices, and public meetings may interest residents who work, build, or own property nearby.
   

5. Alabama's first HomeSense furniture + decor store coming to former Hoover Big Lots (bhamnow.com) — The long-empty former Big Lots space in Hoover's Riverchase Crossings is being transformed into Alabama's first HomeSense store and Hoover's only Shoe Dept. The large Montgomery Highway site next to Trader Joe's will be split between the two retailers, bringing new furniture, décor, and shoe shopping options much closer than the nearest HomeSense in Georgia.
