A witness says gates once protected the crossing, and WAAY 31 has asked the City of Scottsboro and Norfolk Southern whether new safety measures are planned but has not yet received answers.

Major pizza chain has closed at least 40 locations in 2026: See the list so far (mlive.com) — Scottsboro residents have lost their local Papa Johns, as the store on John T Reid Parkway is among at least 40 locations the chain has closed nationwide this year. The company is targeting older, underperforming stores while planning hundreds more closures through 2027. Other major pizza chains are also cutting locations amid a tougher market.

3. Jackson County Deputy Receives Life Saving Award for Heroic Response (svalleynow.com) — A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy based in Scottsboro has been honored for saving a woman who was critically injured after being pinned between a tree and a lawn mower. Deputy Brenda Fossett used a tourniquet to control severe bleeding until medics arrived, and the woman was airlifted for further care. The department praised her calm, decisive response with a Life Saving Award.
