Commercial Vehicle Fire Closes Northbound I-59 In Tuscaloosa County

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A commercial vehicle fire has forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa County.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says the fire was reported at approximately 2:40 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Exit 100 near Lake View.

As of the publication of this story, all northbound lanes remain blocked and authorities have not provided an estimated time for the roadway to reopen.

Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division are on the scene investigating the incident and monitoring traffic.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays and consider alternate routes until the scene is cleared.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, ALEA said northbound lanes between Exit 89 and Exit 97 will be closed for an undetermined amount of time to allow cleanup crews to safely remove the hazardous materials that were released from the tanker trailer.
