Pedestrian Killed In Apparent Hit And Run On Highway 43 In Northport

The Northport Police Department is investigating what is believed to be a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 43.

Northport, AL — The Northport Police Department is investigating what is believed to be a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 43.

NPD Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter told Patch that officers responded around 6:41 p.m. after receiving a report of debris on the side of the road.

When officers investigated further they found a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and killed on the east side of the road in the area Malone Road and nearby Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

The victim has not been identified as of the publication of this story.

"Currently, it is a leaving-the-scene-of-an-accident investigation," Carpenter said. "Our accident reconstruction unit is working the accident and anybody with any information is asked to please contact the Northport Police Department. (205) 339-6600."
