Richard Henry Sworn In To Tuscaloosa City Council District 3 Seat

The Tuscaloosa City Council's newest member was officially sworn into office Tuesday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa City Council’s newest member was officially sworn in to office Tuesday, with Richard Henry taking the District 3 seat following his win in last week’s special election.

Henry was sworn in Tuesday by retired Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court Judge John England and will serve the remainder of the current term alongside the sitting members of the Tuscaloosa City Council.

As Patch previously reported, Henry received 1,318 votes or roughly 74%, compared to Doug Parrish's 473 votes in last week's special election.

He will now fill the unexpired term of former Councilor Norman Crow after he won election to the Alabama House of Representatives.

A lifelong Tuscaloosa resident, Henry is a graduate of Central High School and Auburn University. He is the owner of Right Space Commercial Real Estate and has worked in commercial real estate for nearly 20 years.

Henry has held several leadership roles in the community, including serving as president of the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors and the Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa.

He is also an elder at First Presbyterian Church and currently serves as president of the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

“I am confident that Richard Henry will be a great addition to our City Council,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said. “With his business experience and vision for District 3, I am excited to see all that he accomplishes.”

Henry lives in Tuscaloosa with his wife, Jana, and their two children, Sally and Thomas.
