Founded in 1958, the original Dreamland Bar-B-Que is a local legend. Ribs are the way to go here, especially on Saturdays in the fall when the Crimson Tide football team is playing. Those smoky slabs are cooked hot and fast in big brick pits over a blazing hickory fire, and then they’re slathered in sauce and delivered to tables on paper-lined trays, with sliced white bread and a cup of warm sauce on the side. The rest of the options include chicken, pork sandwiches, and sausage, as well as beans, slaw, and potato salad—a perfect expression of the classic Alabama style.
