Leaders also committed millions to Liberty Park ballfields and high school facilities while keeping an east-side library or community center under consideration pending more public input and design work.

The new facility, believed to be Alabama's first for girls flag football, comes as the Rebels chase another state championship appearance after several dominant seasons.
   

• Alabama weekly wages hit record high as unemployment holds at 3.4% (256today.com) — Vestavia Hills currently boasts the lowest unemployment rate among Alabama's major cities at just 2.6%, according to new state labor data. Statewide, average weekly wages hit a record $1,187.71 in August and overall unemployment held at 3.4%, with job growth strongest in leisure and hospitality, professional services, and private education and health care.
