ASU welcomes inaugural class to its medicine and medical engineering school (fox10phoenix.com) — ASU has launched its new John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering in Phoenix, welcoming 36 students to a four-year dual physician–engineer program. The inaugural class is temporarily based at the downtown Mercado Complex while ASU builds its ASU Health headquarters in downtown Phoenix, slated to open in fall 2028 and reshape local medical training and innovation.

Armed man shot, killed by Phoenix QuikTrip security guard, police say (azfamily.com) — Phoenix police say a security guard shot and killed an armed 44-year-old man during a confrontation Tuesday at a QuikTrip near Peoria Avenue and I-17. The guard, a contracted uniformed officer, was detained and later released as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and work to identify the man who died.
   

3. Teen Sentenced Road Rage Shooting in South Phoenix (arizonadailyindependent.com) — A 15-year-old has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a 2025 road-rage shooting that killed a man riding a scooter in downtown Phoenix near 7th Street and Buckeye Road. Investigators used video, license plate readers, and phone data to identify the teen, and prosecutors say the case underscores how a single reckless decision with a gun can devastate Phoenix families.
   

4. Tempe Police report reveals details of Phoenix Police criminal probe (fox10phoenix.com) — Phoenix police are investigating two of their own officers after a Tempe report linked them to an alleged violent traffic-stop assault in South Phoenix earlier this month. The chief says the claims don't reflect department standards, and both officers are now on administrative leave while the criminal investigation continues.
   

5. WATCH: Automated license plate reading cameras blanket Arizona: Here's where they are concentrated (abc15.com) — Phoenix now has 127 automated license plate readers, part of a growing statewide network of 2,575 cameras that track vehicles across Arizona. A crowdsourced map shows where these devices cluster, from Phoenix and Valley suburbs to Tucson and university campuses, raising questions about surveillance in everyday local travel.
